OUTCOME: We would normally have exposed 1000+ Students per month (non pandemic times). We used the challenge as an opportunity to deepen our process with students already enrolled in our program. Many sessions were taken to the homes (front yards) of students during the pandemic. Our Change Agents went over and above to meet the students and their families during this challenging time. We also saw an increase in Grade 12 Students joining us for guidance and support - championed by those already in the process. As we set the stage for another project year (in Jan/Feb 2021) we are already back to our old numbers.

OUTCOME: Our partnership with the school has strengthened significantly. We enrolled teachers for sessions from June 2020 which in year 3 of our project (2021/22) is opening many more doors - teachers are ambassadors for our program and encourage students to attend SmilingOne's intensified process.  Our Project is being used by the school as their official LEARNER SUPPORT program. We continue to nurture our relationship with our 'Army of Support'.

My daughter has become very good in her communication - more open, calmer, less agitated/aggressive. Before she was someone that would just say what she wanted to say when we were in public. And when we were at home she would often talk out loud and forceful if we did not give her attention.

She had huge challenges with procrastination which impacted her school work negatively. And I did not know what to do. It is like she has changed so much, I wake up during the night and I see her still sitting with her books. For me, I am happy that she is learning to express herself (differently). And that she is now listening.

I am so lucky to know that my daughter is learning to express herself, through the program. Parents are at work most of the time and when you get back from work, you are not really spending time with your kids because then you must go to bed. You only start to notice things when Children start to Rebel and then they end up saying that you have never spoken to them. So to know that there is help for my kid to get the skill of expressing herself is good. And I mean constructively expressing herself. It is a hard skill to acquire. Life gets fast and in todays world the youth must learn to express themselves.

The program helps, there are things that my daughter now opens up about with you guys, that I am not aware of. I have seen her sharing when I am sitting there. She was not like that before.

She is much more calmer than before. I have been speaking to her a lot about jumping to conclusions and being too quick to react. She has a softer way of handling her Challenges now.

I think that more Parents should enrol their Children in the Program. Your child can learn a lot by being in the program. My child was very aggressive and had a hard way of speaking and handling things. She is so much different.

I felt in most cases that you are here for me not just for my daughter. I feel like the sessions (house-visits) was for me. I get to SEE my daughter in the sessions when she shares. But I also see myself. There was this one time you guys had session with her and I felt it is for me.
Ms Phigland
My son's attitude has changed a lot. I can say that there is many things that has changed. He is much more understandable. I also see that he has a mature way of doing things now. He has expressed and talked to me how he loves his sisters. I can definitely see that his relationship with his eldest sister has grown a lot. And the young one, he always stands up for her. I always wanted my kids to have that family bond.

I really appreciate the way you guys help Students to be free to talk with their Parents. They can come to the Parents for solutions. And the way they have found new ways to handle their Challenges.

In these days you would never have thought that a program as yours could be at the school. You guys should really think about reaching more Students. I know many Parents and Kids who can use your Guys' help.

OUTCOME: Exposure Classes at school were limited between April to November due to the Pandemic. Our Change Agents were on the ground the moment school opened again for Grade 12's in June 2020. A lot of engagements happened via phone and WhatsApp Groups as well as visits to the students in our program. We also spend time building our online academy and upgraded our portfolio with amazing content that enhances the learning experience for the students.

OUTCOME: The Change Agents have been meeting weekly for training sessions and also attend the RYP Bootcamp & 5 Steps to Breakthrough Webinars for global clients via the Academy to enhance their toolkits as coaches & facilitators. We continue to sharpen their toolkits and mindsets so as to better navigate the challenging landscape of a school environment.

OUTCOME: Having Teachers involved on a similar engagement path as the students ensures that they can better relate to challenges experienced and thereby better support, not just academically but also emotionally.
TESTIMONIALS

STUDENTS SHARE...

In the program I found my love and courage. I have matured a lot. When I feel fed up or stressful there is always you guys (Change Agents) that I could talk to. Then I really start to think about Change.

The Mirror shows the reflection of yourself. If you want to look how you feel. Sometimes you are sad than you can identify it in the mirror. And the inside, you open it and then an Angry One pops up it is like you can see differences about yourself. You get surprised sometimes by what you see. Sometimes you see the happy One and then I am surprised about what pops up.

Ultimately, I get to explore the world – new things. I see different meanings and new things.

I learned that there were other Students that also goes through Challenges. There are people that help you with those Challenges like SmilingOne. The interesting thing in the program is that you find out more about yourself. The program helps you deal with the problems that you need help with.

At first I was nervous. I did not know how I would be accepted, what everyone would think of me. I came to the program as a stranger and later on we became a family. I think SmilingOne is about becoming a family. Loving one another. Caring for each other. And helping one another, with each others challenges.

SmilingOne helps you define yourself through your challenges.
LYNITA
I became a new person. A big change came in my life from where I was. I was the type of girl that does not share. I was wearing a Mask most of the time. Showing others that I am happy. I had no Confidence - to speak in front of others was a big deal for me. I build a wall within me.Today - I have no wall anymore, I can say I am an open book now. I can easily stand in front of others and share the Challenges that I am facing. I started to see what I relate to in others' Challenges that they go through and maybe others can relate to me too.
ROBYN
I think that I am better with school work, with house problems and how to handle situations. I was helped a lot in the program. I started working on the emotional aspect of Myself. The Responsible Individual tools have helped me a lot. Even when we were at the Annual Meeting of SmilingOne. The more places you go the new people you meet, so does your Character develop with those puzzle pieces.

I think that I realize that I cannot play around in the program, there is a sense of seriousness. You have to share. In the program I shared the stuff I kept inside always, I shared it with the Change Agents. I felt the release. It became easier for me to release and speak to my mom and the people that I trust. It is like the basement tool. You store all your stuff in the basement. End of the day you do not know how to handle it. I can now use the Mirror tool, to take me back to the emotions I stored…  I then talk about it instead of just keeping it in.
QUEWEN
Finding myself and knowing my worth was very beneficial. I am overcoming my fears day by day. I still have fears. It is more like I am coping better with it. I have changed a lot. At first I did not care. I did not worry. As time went by I came to the point where I noticed and decided it cannot go on like that. You cannot live each day like everyday. When there is new opportunities you have to grab on them. I have higher standards now. (laughing in humour).

I did stuff without thinking it through. As you grow and become wiser you need to think before acting. Many times you do not think and than you have to bear the consequences. It depends on how you say something. You cannot say something and not put action behind it.
KEENAN
I think the best thing that I got from The Responsible Individual program was an 'Open Mindset'. Previously - Nothing was working my way and I thought nothing of myself. I did not think much of life. Now I know tough times will be there, I can go through it and I got the tools to deal with it. There are many things that will come on my path, that will test me. I can face it as my Challenge. For me to overcome my Challenges makes me a better person. It gives me insight and knowledge.

The best thing for me at SmilingOne is the interaction between others. I can explore your mind and you can explore mine. I was really not interacting with a lot of people before. Here at SmilingOne it feels good to engage and learn from other people and they can learn to know you.
